Building Options for Solving Problems

For years, building a cell from scratch was considered impossible. SpudCell showed it can be done. That matters beyond the science itself: it is a reminder that problems the world treats as unsolvable often are not.

Biotic exists to make that kind of progress easier and more widely shared. Biology is one of the most powerful problem-solving tools we have, and we want more people to be able to use it safely and responsibly, to take on the challenges they see around them, whether in health, food, materials, or the environment. Much of that work is best done locally, by the people closest to the problem: a farmer breeding crops for their own soil and climate, a clinic building a low-cost test for a disease common in its region, or a community checking its own water for contamination.

You do not need to be a scientist to take part. Whether you are a student, a teacher, a researcher, or simply curious, we are building ways for you to learn, contribute, and benefit from a community that shares this goal.

Biotic will not solve all of the world's problems. What we can do is build the tools, knowledge, and connections that make those problems easier for others to solve.

Where to get involved now

The synthetic biology and synthetic cell field already has open, welcoming communities and programs. While we build ours, these are great places to start learning and meet people.
